MARIA'S COMMENTS

This is different! I really like how, even though Maria made it herself, new, this top has the feel of a true favorite. A piece of clothing I'd go to after a hard day. Maria, I sure do like your top!

Thanks Kathleen, you've made my day! :) I've dropped it into a washing machine after sewing to give it more distressed look!

I think the lovely color combined with plenty of textures makes this. Linen is the best for play with different textures and techniques. I'm only a beginner sewer and there are still so many things to try!

Gorgeous! I love the fringe detail at the neckline. Did you use an existing pattern for this or create your own?

No pattern used here. I took a square piece of fabric and folded it twice (quartering) from corner to corner, creating triangular shape. Then I drew the shape of the garment on it:

1. 90% corner is where you draw your neckline (small one, since we cut both back and front together) and the sleeve of desired length and shape, following the straight edge of the fabric.

2. Straight edge of the fabric will become top of the sleeve, no need to create any curves, bias cut will make it flow around the shoulder shape anyway. Sharp corner at the bottom will become your hemline (I made mine curved).

3. Connect the sleeves with hemline with flaring line... Basically, just draw a shape of a qute little dress on quartered fabric and cut. Unfold, cut the size of front neckline to desired depth.

4. And then sew side-seams together, finish neckline, sleeves and hemline (I did bias tape on neckline, folded sleeves and hemline). DONE! I also created little ropes to decorate the neckline, but it still took just one evening to finish! Love it! :)

I'm so happy you liked it! Try it, it's super easy to make and it is such a pleasure to wear bias cut linen garments, I'm positively in love with them!

Another small tip - when cutting on the bias (in any fabric) it is best to leave hemline unfinished and leave the garment hanging overnight and then re-check and finish - it might become a bit uneven due to stretching. I skipped this step though! :)

Love, love, love ❤️ this tunic. I am not quite understanding the instructions, is there any way you can send me pics to go with the instructions. I so want to make this. I LOVE linen and have bought many colours and made pants. So cute.

Linda, I would love to send you pictures and detailed instructions, just not sure how to... I don't think I can send personal messages here. If you can send me your email address, I'll make pics for you!
