Made this Bunad while taking care of my mother who moved in with us & was in end stage Alzheimer\'s. She required me to be in the same room. The Bunad took over 1000 hours to make. Underslip & blouse are linen bought here. Linen is white o

I did this while caring for my mother who had end stage Alzheimer\'s. She came to live with us, but until she wasn\'t mobile, she was always trying to run away from home. The sewing kept me busy while keeping her safe.

White linen for blouse, black lining for shawl and an underskirt were all from fabrics-store.com. Main body of Bunad is light weight black wool. Embroidery floss is wool.

Stunning embroidery. I have a shawl I started crocheting with doily thread when I would visit my dad. He had Alzheimer’s too. I understand the peace which come with creating. This garment must have a lot of sewn in each stitch.

Thanks Barbara. It now is a reminder of my time with my mother creating something of worth and keeping her safe at the same time. I probably wouldn\'t have taken the time to do something like this if my mother wasn\'t with me.

I had to create my own pattern for this. In Norway there are classes with patterns supplied. I got people who had this Bunad which is specific to a region or farm to send me photographs of their work and the scaling and created my own pattern.

I then had the graphic I created printed out on a large format printer, 36" and transferred the pattern over to the wool. I took a photograph with me when I picked out the embroidery colors to match them to the photograph.
